Thank you to everyone who participated in the 3rd Annual MATS Student Seminar and Bowl. There were a total of 180 participants registered, with over 150 in attendance in Mt. Pleasant. Students from ten (out of 13) CAATE-accredited programs in the state of Michigan participated.

This year’s theme was professional development. Diana Gaines RN, BSN, Director of Ambulatory Care at Central Michigan Community Hospital, kicked off the event with a keynote address, followed by breakout sessions. Dana Gomez MBA, ATC and Tracey Hubbard ATC of WorkFit presented on resume writing; Mike Braid MEd, ATC of Hackley Hospital Sports Medicine presented on networking; and Kirk Brumels PhD, ATC of Hope College presented on cover letters. All presentations were interactive and engaging to the students.

The employment panel featured dual credentialed professionals. Special thanks are in order for Marge Taylor PT, ATC, JSCC (TriRehab) and Ellen Hector ATC (PT student - Mayo Clinic); Dr. Larry Nassar DO, ATC (MSU) and Carrie Beal ATC (DO student – MSU); Mike Strauss PA, ATC (MSU), Elizabeth Cotsonika ATC (PA student - CMU), and Courtney Estala ATC (PA student - CMU).

Central Michigan University won the MATS Bowl with Michigan State as a close runner-up. A total of 22 teams competed from CMU, EMU, Hope, LSSU, MSU, NMU, SVSU and U of M.

Special thanks are in order for the book vendors and medical supply companies who donated items for the raffle, as well as TriRehab for their donations. Central Michigan University College of Health Professions donated the use of their facilities as well as technology assistance for the event.

Lastly, a special thanks to all of the committee members: Christina, Jodi, Mike, Jeremy, Lindsey, Rachel, Kalli, Meaghan, Adam D., Adam S., Stasia, Steve, and Kara, as well as our two excellent GLATA student representatives, Ashley and Carrie.
