Janet Tsang receives appointment as Michigan's Placement Representative

Olivet, Michigan- Olivet College's head athletic trainer, Janet Tsang, has been appointed placement representative for the Michigan Athletic Trainers' Society (MATS). Tsang will serve on the Great Lakes Athletic Training Association (GLATA) placement committee representing the state of Michigan.

Responsibilities will include submitting job placement information for the MATS website, working with the "Job Placement Center" at district (GLATA) and national (NATA) meetings, and generating ideas to aid Michigan athletic training students and certified athletic trainers in the application process. Tsang will utilize the Employment Issues Handbook that the NATA placement committee has published as the template for the information she will be providing to the Michigan Athletic Trainers' Society. Some of the topics include: Career upward mobility; a systematic approach, Job Search Timetable, How to find available atheltic training positions, Networking skills, Resume design, Correspondence with prospective employers, Interviewing skills, Reasons why applicants are turned down, and How to evaluate a potential employment opportunity. The information that will be posted on the website will address specific issues related to athletic training employment. The intent is present the information in an applicable fashion allowing athletic training students and entry-level and/or experienced certified athletic trainers the opportunity to fefine their employment seeking skills and increase their professional marketability.

Tang's involvement as a placement representative for Michigan will also include volunteering to work for the Job Placement Center. The Job Placement Center is open during the duration of the NATA Clinical Symposium and provides both Employers and Prospective Employees with an invaluable service. The Placement Center consists of numerous interviewing rooms, computers with internet access, job postings coordinated by setting (i.e. college, high school, clinic, etc.) and geographical location, and also a computer based template for volunteers to schedule interviews for prospective employees. "I am very excited about contributing to the continued advancement of the athletic training profession," said Tsang.
